Posted January 05, 2019 12:02:54Amazon is planning a brick-and-mortar bakery in Portland that will sell locally-sourced blue cheese and olive oil, along with a variety of other baked goods.
The bakery is set to open in the first quarter of 2020, according to a blog post by Amazon.
The Portland location will be located in a space that has previously served as a bakery, according Amazon.
The company did not specify a price or release an opening date.
The Portland location is expected to be a hub for local vendors, who will be able to sell their goods directly to customers, said Adam Zuckerman, an Amazon spokesperson.
Zuckman did not elaborate on what those vendors would be.
“The focus is on our customers,” Zuckeman said.
“We’re not going to speculate as to what those customers will be, because we don’t want to do that.”
Zuckerman did not have any further details about the company’s plans for the Portland bakery.
Amazon is expanding into brick- and-mortars with its $99 Echo smart speaker.
It recently opened a $150 store in Washington, D.C., and is planning another $1.2 billion in retail and residential projects, including a second-floor retail tower.
Amazon’s new Seattle office building, which is slated to open later this year, is being designed by the firm.
